General Requirements

The general steps will require applicants to demonstrate they are:

Internationally recognised in their field,
Of any age however, those who are under 18 years or 55 years and over will need to demonstrate their exceptional benefit to the Australian community,
Able to demonstrate Functional English language ability,
Of good health and character,
Nominated by someone who is also recognised in the same area of expertise,
If in Australia, holding one of the following visas:
- Substantive visa (491 or 494 visa holders must have held one of these visas for at least 3 years at time of 858 visa application), or
- Bridging visas A, B, or C

- Defence, Advanced Manufacturing Space - the area of industry dedicated to space technology and manufacturing; and the entire value chain of advanced manufacturing from research, design, logistics to after-sales service of manufacturing products
- Circular Economy
- Digitech
- Health Industries - medical technologies and pharmaceuticals
- FinTech - technology which automates the use and delivery of financial services
- Infrastructure and tourism
- Education
Can attract an annual salary that is equivalent to, or higher than, the Fair Work High Income Threshold. This is adjusted each 1 July
